Student Interns

Every year, The Speech, Language and Reading Lab organizes a Summer Internship Program for undergraduate students interested in child language and literacy research. It aims to provide undergraduate students with an excellent opportunity to work in a stimulating, supportive, and encouraging lab that inspires them to develop their own research interests for their final-year dissertation projects. Also, students will gain hands-on experience testing children with specific language deficits impairment and learning difficulties. In addition, the selected Summer Internship students will work closely with the director of the lab and the research assistant on data collection, data entry, data analysis, contacting parents/schools, and other research-related activities. The program usually lasts for 2-3 months, depending on each student’s preference.

We are currently recruiting 2020 summer interns. If you are interested, please fill out the Google form (https://forms.gle/ysNXEDuwR5QgbiG5A) and we will be in touch with you soon.

      Summer 2018

I have enjoyed learning about psycholinguistics, as well as the work environment in a research lab. Through taking part in different projects, like dyslexia testing and data handling, and especially the ECS project, I was able to gain first-hand experience of the stages involved in research. As a psychology student, it has been insightful to apply some of the knowledge and skills I learnt at university into a real life setting.  You and the other lab members have been very welcoming. Cecilia and Joseph, …, have always been patient in teaching and guiding me and are great role models.         – Joey

This experience prepares me well to carry out standardized tests in the coming clinical practicum…that I truly learn a lot from Stephen’s Chinese Dictation Coding workshop and from Stephen himself. I understand more about the constitutions of a Chinese character. Stephen was so patient and nice to teach me step by step and even wrote notes to me when I encountered uncertainties…     – Mary
